Thank you!
If you are reading this because you are serving as a Returning Well Companion, first and foremost, thank you! Thank you for giving the gift of serving as a companion, and to that end, I want to make sure you have what you need to feel confident in this vital role you are playing in the life of your friend.

An Article for You
The first piece of equipping for you to engage is the “Serving as a Returning Well Companion” article. A copy of this article is in the back of your friend’s guidebook or you may download it here using the password from your friend's guidebook. Please read this article at least once, if not before every meeting with your friend. Also, you will want to bring this article with you to every meeting as it contains questions specific to each meeting that match the material your friend has engaged between meetings.

An Optional, but Encouraged, Preparation
Next, before your first meeting with your friend, we recommend that you watch the movie Cast Away. Watching Cast Away will help prepare you to be an effective companion as it will give you an understanding of the transitions inherent in cross-cultural life including departure, adjustment, and re-entry. Further, given that your friend has also been encouraged to watch it, the movie will allow the two of you to have a common starting place for a debriefing that leads to renewal. Your friend has a “Cast Away Content Advisory for Faith-Based Audiences” should you desire to see it before watching the movie. This advisory is also available here using the password provided in your friend's guidebook. Visit the "Questions for Getting Started" section on the FAQ page for ideas on where to buy or rent Cast Away.

“Returning Well is a great tool that I enjoy using with my clients because it adjusts to the individuals experiences and time frame for debriefing. I love watching the change that happens about session 3 or 4 where the person has processed the past enough to begin to look to the future and see possibilities. That is the turning point to toward renewal that this form of debriefing leads to. Returning Well leads to hope and a future"

“Returning Well sizzles with relevance and satisfies a pressing need in the cross-cultural community. This well-paced guidebook speaks to the heart of a cross-cultural servant with amazing sensitivity. With the clever use of a movie, this book is more than a ‘must-read’; it is a captivating experience. As a coach for cross-cultural sojourners, this is a practical tool I’ll be recommending until I die! I wish I'd had a copy when I returned after living more than twenty years overseas!”
